31 for 21: Times Are Changing

Things are changing around here...too fast in my opinion :)  Emma is going to school next month. (sniff, sniff)  Right now all of her therapists come to our house to work with her.  Once she turns 3 she goes to the school district for the early childhood program.  Today was her last day with Mrs. Rebecca, her Occupational Therapist.  She has been a wonderful therapist, and has given us great ideas to help Emma in her development.  We will miss her greatly.

31 for 21

Grab This Button

I found this challenge:  the 31 for 21 Blog Challenge to Raise Awareness of Down Syndrome!  October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.  In case you didn't know...the official name of DS is Trisomy 21.  The challenge is to blog everyday in October.  I'm starting a little late, but I'm ok with that.  Here I go, I'm going to give it a try.  So, be looking for more about what is going on in the Huwe household!

The Church Has Left the Building

I absolutely love our church. Our mission statement is: Love God, Love People, Serve Others. This really does sum up our church. They are always doing awesome things and thinking outside of the box. I love how they support other churches and now we're planting some new churches, 10 to be exact! Amazing! It's our 10 year anniversary on 10-10-10. So were planting 10 churches around the world. They are always looking for ways to reach out to the community, as well. This weekend we got to be a part of something pretty cool. This is the title for church this Sunday and it tells you a little bit about it. I am always in awe of how God created the church to be and how when it functions the way it is supposed to He can do so many great things! I pray there are many people so blessed this weekend that they can't help but want God in their lives too!

THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

On Sunday, October 3, 2010, The Crossing, a Christian Church will close their doors on Sunday. No services. No preaching. No classes. Absolutely nothing will happen inside the building on that Sunday. People will actually be encouraged to "skip church".

Instead, we will celebrate our 10 Year Anniversary at The Crossing by doing something unheard of. We are shutting down our church campus, canceling church services and asking people to be the church instead of going to church.

From 10 AM to 2 PM individuals and families from The Crossing will spread out to eight locations throughout the Las Vegas valley meeting together, rolling up their sleeves and serving our community. We will meet everywhere, but the church. We trust that by not gathering at the church, we will look more like the church than we ever have. Instead of attending church on this day, we will actually go into our community and make an impact.

This was on the news tonight!  There were 8 different places that the church volunteered at, but the news covered the place that Dave and went to.

It Can't Be...5 Months!

I really cannot believe my little guy is already 5 months old.  Here are a few pics of my little sweetie and an update on what he's been doing. So, he hasn't been a fan of tummy time, but that is changing.  He loves rolling over now.  I found him asleep on his tummy for the first time last week.  That made me sad.  He's growing up too fast.

Lately he has been soooo hungry, so we started him on rice cereal a few weeks ago.  Not a fan.  He would scream until he got the bottle.  Now he's got the hang of eating off the spoon and seems to like it.  I cannot get over how happy this guy is, unless it's time to eat!!!  I am truly blessed to have had 3 incredibly happy babies.  Thanks, God!

Buddy Walk 2010

The Buddy Walk was on Saturday. Wow, it was a very hot day, but it was worth it! We raised $1,000!! I was so overwhelmed again by the generosity of family and friends supporting Emma and Down Syndrome. What was most overwhelming to me was the people who I hardly know, but are friends of family or co-workers, that gave. That was a blessing for me this week...How some people are so generous and kind to those they don't know. It definitely challenged me to be more giving. Anyway, thanks to all who supported us! Here is a look at our afternoon at the walk.
Here is the star of the day. She was soooo tired. It was way past her nap.

This one is precious!

The first year we started this tradition of taking Emma's picture with everyone. She wasn't so cooperative this year since she was extremely tired.

I had to jump in the picture because she didn't want anyone else to hold her.

We were finally on our way.

The whole gang.

Throughout the walk there were volunteers to cheer you on. They would chant, "Go Team Emma!" Emma would just stare at them.

She finally fell asleep. We had to use a shirt to keep her out of the sun.

After the walk...ready to go home.

Happy Birthday to Me!

What a great it has been. Dave spoiled me today. First, I got to sleep in. Then he made a yummy breakfast. Next, I got to go shopping all by myself. We ended the day at Claim Jumper for another yummy meal.

Northern Nevada

Dave and I want to move out of Vegas eventually. This isn't the place that we want to raise our kids. We've been praying that someday, hopefully sooner than later, God will move us somewhere else. Dave is always looking on line for property and dreaming of the future. We'd love to have a ranch and to have his parents and my parents both move with us.

Dave found some property up in Northern NV by a tiny little town called Battle Mountain. We took a road trip up there to see what it was like.

The girls were eating Cheetos while watching VeggieTales. We just found out they were gluten-free so we were excited.

The area was very nice and so was the property. It was in a canyon which was cool. It even had a little stream running through it, but it didn't have a huge flat area to build where the power ran to.

After that we drove over to Elko. All of Northern NV was so beautiful. We went to look at some other property that was on a river, but we ended up on a wild goose chase and never found it. We talked to someone that lived in the area and found out that the streets weren't labeled correctly. So our map was doing us no good! It was so beautiful, but then a storm hit and I didn't get any pictures by the water. Dave took this cool picture when we stopped on the side of the road.

Next, we drove down to Ely to spend the night. We wanted to ride the train, but it didn't leave until 4:30 and we were planning on heading back to Vegas early in the day, so we just took a little tour of the rail yard. We saw them working on the train and then we watched them back it out. We got covered in soot, but the kids had fun.
